Crochet Cowl

handcraftbygrip-cowlCrochet Cowl in cotton yarn, wear it to work or parties as a nice shawl. I made one to try it out in 2012 and just love it! Follow this easy pattern to get started!

This post is mentioned on Swedish site Handunik. For Swedish tips, check out my blog Pyssel&Inspiration.blogspot.com!

Crochet a cowl

  • Make a series of chain stitches, try to judge how big you want the cowl to be.
  • Join the ends together with a slip stitch to form a circle.
  • Start crocheting around the circle, I normally make the first round with 1 single stitch in every chain stitch. Join together with slip stitch.
  • Crochet the style you want the cowl, use double stitches to make a loose pattern.

Mobile case of fabric

A mobile case of fabric might be easy to do, I made this last night, took maybe just an hour because I skipped making lining which is recommended.

Make mobile case of fabric

Cut two pieces of the same size, one piece half the size for a pocket and a small piece for the enclosement. Zig zag around all the sides of the pieces.

20130730-163447.jpg
Fold in the side that is supposed to be the opening of the pocket and stitch.

20130730-163729.jpg
Pin the three pieces together. Make sure to place the pocket correctly. Stitch together.

20130730-163828.jpg
Stitch the smallest piece together with inside out, along the longer sides. Turn it right. Pin onto the back of the case and stitch after opening of the case has been folded and stitched.

20130730-163935.jpg
Stitch on velcro on the inside of the small piece and onto the front of the case. Just measure by closing the case and then stitch it on.

Make fabric bag with zipper

Make a fabric bag with zipper, since I am a beginner to using zippers in my projects I made this tutorial. Good for real amateurs like me. 🙂

The fabric I used comes from IKEA, it is old and served as a try out.

Make fabric bag with zipper

Plan if  you are going to make a simple bag or one with lining.

Cut out two pices of fabric, one piece each for the bags front and back. I measured the fabrics short ends after the zippers length.

make-fabric-bag

I usually zig zag along all sides of the fabric. Then place the fabrics towards each others right sides and stitch together on all ends except the opening.

Place the both fabrics onto the zippers one side. The lining on the backside and the front fabric on the zippers right side. Stitch on.

Later stitch on the other end of the lining fabric onto the zippers other side.

sy-dragkejda-necessar

After putting on the linings two pices on the zippers backside, and one side of the exterior fabric on the front side of the zipper, you can sew the sides and bottom of the bag/bags.

Almost all set, check out how the inside of the bag looks.

sy-dragkedja-necessar-2

Turn the bag right, while the last side of the exterior fabric is still loose.

Put the last remaining side on the outer side of the zipper. Stitch on and your fabric bag is done!

Knit beanie

These beanies are knittet in Acrylic yarn, in a round on double pointed needles 3,5 mm. A bit tricky using 5 needles since it is easy for the stitches to fall of. Everyone keeps recommending me to use circle needle…

Basic pattern to knit a classic beanie

Traditional beanie English rib

Tools: Pointed needles size 7 mm, or size needed to get 10 sts x 16 rows in English rib = 10 x 10 cm. Yarn that can be used: Cotton, Acrylic, Wool.

  • Back and forth on needle-style. K all rows. Rib back and forth on needle.
  • ROW 1 (= RS): 1 back and forth on needle-style st, * K1, 1 YO, slip 1 st as if to P *, repeat from *-* until 2 sts remain, finish with K1 and 1 back and forth on needle-style st.
  • ROW 2 (= WS): 1 back and forth on needle-style, * 1 YO, slip 1 st as if to P, K tog YO and slipped st *, repeat from *-* until 2 sts remain, finish with 1 YO, slip 1 st as if to P, 1 back and forth on needle-style st.
  • ROW 3 (= RS): 1 back and forth on needle-style st, * K tog YO and slipped st, 1 YO, slip 1 st as if to P *, repeat from *-* until 3 sts remain, K tog YO and slipped st, 1 back and forth on needle-style st.
  • Repeat row 2 and 3.
  • Cast on 66-72-78 sts on needle size 7 mm. Work first row as follows from WS: 1 edge st in back and forth on needle-style st, * P1, P2 tog *, repeat from *-* until 2 sts remain and finish with P1 and 1 edge st in back and forth on needle-style st = 45-49-53 sts. Continue doing rib.
  • When piece measures 18-19-20 cm, finish after row 3.
  • Knit next row as follows from WS: 1 back and forth on needle-style st, * P1, K tog YO and slipped st *, repeat from *-* until 2 sts remain, finish with P1 and 1 back and forth on needle-style st = 45-49-53 sts.
  • Knit 1 row with K over K and P over P (edge st continues in back and forth on needle-style) and P 1 row from WS. On next row K2 tog across the row (not the edge sts) = 24-26-28 sts. P 1 row from WS.
  • On next row K2 tog across the row. Cut the thread, pull it through remaining sts and fasten.
  • Sew hat tog mid back in outer loops of sts to avoid a chunky seam.
  • Decorate the beanie with a ribbon and a bow.

Crochet rug of t-shirts

Crochet rug of t-shirts, just cut them in pieces and get started!

Re-use t-shirts that you just don’t want to wear no more but yet not worn out. All you need are a scissor and a crochet hook.

Crochet rug of t-shirts

  • Start by cutting the fabric, according to the picture below. Start with cutting of the arms, neck and all pieces that are not a square. For every t-shirt you should have two pieces of fabric. Cut according to the picture, roll together to a skein.Avoid cutting short peices to joint together, the longer pieces the better.

  • Crochet with a big hook, and make a decision weather you wanna crochet a squared rug or a round one. Crochet the same way as for potholders. Do not tighten the fabric too much since t-shirt fabric has stretch.

Rug made of bedlinnen

I aslo re-use bedlinnen of cotton to make rugs, they stay in good shape for a long time and are washable in the machine.

crochet granny squares pattern

Cushion of granny squares

I just love to crochet granny squares, therefore my home is now looking like my grannys home with all those squares, on blankets, cushions and table cloth…

Easy to do and perfect for using the left overs of yarn.

Pattern granny squares

To get started, chain 5 (ch 5), and join to form a ring.
Chain 3 (ch 3)—this one counts as your first dc. Make 2 more dcs over ring. This is your first 3 dc shell.
*Ch 2, and make 3 dc over ring. Repeat from* 2 more times, ch 2 and join yarn to the 3rd ch of the round. First row of square is made!

Join the second color of yarn in one of the ch-2 spaces (these are all corners, at this point). Ch 3 to count as your first dc. In the same ch-2 space: 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc. You’ve just made a corner.
Next, ch1, and skip the shell.
*In the next corner, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc). Ch 1, skip the previous round’s shell. Repeat from * twice and join to the third stitch of the round.

With each round, you’ll be adding an extra shell on each side, and by adding your square grows bigger and bigger.

To finish a cushion, make 9 squares, finish all the squares with the same color, I used white. Sew the squares together with a thread of the same yarn when finished and sew the grannys on a piece of fabric.

Soft shawl & hat

Crochet shawl & hat

Used acrylic yarn and a thread of glittery thread, make the shawl look shiny althiugh it’s soft. Made to order with white beanie and matching flower.

Handmade crocheted design, acrylic yarn.
Autumn 2010

Pattern crochet shawl

Start on top of shawl and chain loosely 235 sts.
1st row: 1 sc in the 9th ch from hook, * 6 ch, skip 5 ch, 1 sc in following ch *, repeat *-* until end of row and finish with 6 ch, skip 2 ch, 1 sc in last ch.
2nd row: crochet sl st up to the top of the 1st ch-bow, * 6 ch, 1 sc on top of following bow *, repeat *-* until end of row (this way you’ll dec ½ bow in each side on every row). *-* = 1 repeat.
Repeat 2nd row until there is only 1 bow left. Cut thread and fasten.

Start by putting pearls on the yarn, maximum 30 at the time.
When you run out of pearls on the thread, cut thread (preferably in side of shawl) and put another 30 pearls on the yarn. The idea is that you with even intervals pull up a pearl that will be locked when you crochet following sc.
